Reminder to register for the 2026-27 season as soon as possible!
As winter sports approach their final weeks, cricket is ramping up (note: ramping not encouraged š). There's a lot happening in the local cricket community and at Leichhardt Wanderers Cricket Club - read on for all the details!
Firstly, we'd like to welcome all of the new families to the club; if this is your first newsletter, we hope you enjoy reading our updates as we approach the commencement of the season and beyond. There's plenty in store! For all of our returning players and families, we're so glad to have you back at the club for hopefully a fun-filled year of community cricket!'
The theme of this edition of the newsletter is Girls' Cricket at Leichhardt Wanderers. As a club we are extremely proud of our girls cricket scene, which continues to grow. Our goal is to continue to be a leader in girls cricket in the Sydney metropolitan area. We have a team of hard-working committee volunteers committed to this goal, including our girls' cricket coordinator Dan Moore, our registrar Gabby Russell, and girls' cricket advocate Christine Hawkins. There are many more, including our amazing coaches who look after our girls teams with such passion. We are privileged to have such dedicated people working towards growing the game of cricket for girls in the local community.
But we need your help - if you know of any girls who would like to try or play cricket, please let them know about us. We have a range of offerings for different age groups and skill levels, and Dan is always happy to talk to anyone interested and we are happy to connect people. As a starting point, we have a dedicated launch page for Girls Cricket on our website.
New 2026 Girls Uniform: Coloured Trousers for all Girls
Coloured trousers for LW girls are here! Thanks to our partners at Club Five Dock, for the 2026 season, all registered players in our all-girls teams will receive a pair of our stylish new red club trousers as part of their registration, at no extra cost. These trousers are now the official playing uniform for girls at LWCC.
Note: distribution of trousers to players will be communicated at a later date. Additionally, please note there is no change to playing shirts for girls; the current shirts remain part of our official playing uniform.
Pitch Perfect: Girls' Cricket Academy
New for 2026, Leichhardt Wanderers Cricket Club, in conjunction with Cricket NSW, launched Pitch Perfect, a dedicated girls' cricket academy designed especially for junior girl cricketers who want to focus on developing their game and their cricket skills beyond that of junior club cricket.
Our first edition of the academy was run over eight weeks in May and June at Cricket Central and was superbly led by professional coach Aarya Shipurkar. Feedback from the girls and their families was that the program was a fantastic success which the girls thoroughly enjoyed, and we plan to run a second edition again in 2027. LWCC Tour Diary: Sri Lanka 2026
Also in the off-season in July, several Leichhardt Wanderers junior players travelled to the wonderful cricketing-mad country of Sri Lanka, on a cricket tour with 360 Cricket Academy. This included our girls players Aditi, Emily and Connie (pictured below). The trip was an experience of a lifetime, as our junior cricketers played in very different conditions to what they're used to, seeing an amazing part of the world and making a host of new friends in the process!
360 Cricket Academy is a private academy run in Sydney's Inner West by the Squire brothers Ash and Max, who along with coach Zoya Thakur, regularly train many LW juniors who wish to develop their game further.
