What a week for cricket!

The third and final test for the Australian men's team vs South Africa commences tonight in Cape Town - can Australia overcome it's batting woes from Gqeberha to hold on to their number one test ranking?

WBBL Season 12 hits off this Thursday, with the Sydney Thunder playing the Renegades in Melbourne, while the first match in Sydney is on Sunday at Drummoyne Oval, where Spring Challenge champions Sydney Sixers host the Hobart Hurricanes. Whichever side of the "Sydney fence" you're on, make sure you get out to Drummoyne Oval or North Sydney Oval to see the superstars of women's cricket in action this season!

Speaking of superstars, we'd like to honour two former LWCC juniors - now Sydney Sixers: former Wanderers Medal winner, wicket keeper Hayley Zauch, played in all six matches for the Sixers in their successful Spring Challenge competition, and off-spinner Frankie Nicklin, who not only also played in the Sixers winning Spring Challenge team, but has been awarded a contract to play for the Sixers in the 2026/27 WBBL season! Congratulations Hayley & Frankie! #FriendsforLife

Finally, close to home, we roll on to round three of the junior cricket season this weekend!

U8 White – LWCC (5-168) def. North Ryde Rockets (10-110)

After a bye last week, The Leichhardt Wanderers opened the season with an excellent win over the North Ryde Rockets, combining a strong batting total with an impressive 10-wicket bowling and fielding performance. It was a terrific effort for the team considering that for a majority it was their first cricket game ever.

Major achievements for the team

  • First match of the season and our first win.

  • Arjun scored 67 runs!

  • Auguste and Emile top scored as the next top partnership with 20 and also didn't lose a wicket.

  • The Wanderers took an outstanding 10 wickets which was supported by a great fielding effort including lots of run-outs!

  • Wickets to Auguste (4), Laurie (4), Emile (3) and 1 each to Arjun, Alfie & Abir.

  • The Wanderers lost only five wickets.

  • Special mention to Theo and Esben who swapped to the other team as they didn't have enough players. Theo got 21 runs and 2 wickets. Esben got 20 runs.

Overall, it was a terrific start to the season. Thank you also to all the super parents for helping!

Coaches Tom and Dom.

U9 Derby – LWCC Gold (122) def. LWCC Black (75)

Gold

Our U9 Golds put on a brilliant team display. Raff opened the bowling with a beautiful round-arm action, and everyone worked well together in the field to take 4 wickets-a great team effort!

Emerson and Tomas opened the batting brilliantly, while Remy scored our first 12 (a double 6) of the season. We also saw awesome hitting and running between the wickets from Ernie, Markendaya, and Hudson.

Our team of newcomers are all doing great and having so much fun in their first season of cricket. Keep up the amazing work, team!

Black

The mighty U9 Blacks took on LW Gold in a fiercely contested hometown derby at the home of cricket!

Captain for the day, Aiden won the bat toss and elected to bat first, reasoning that the morning dew would make the ball slippery and harder for the opposition to control. A tactical masterclass from the skipper! The wooden willows made their first and last appearance of the season. Those heavyweight beasts made swinging harder than expected, but our openers dug in and saw off the new ball in style.

Ollie got us going with an 8-run ball after smashing a four into the double-points zone. BOOM! Aaron showed he's a serious opening batter, piling on valuable runs and sprinting between the wickets like his life depended on it. Ted and C-Penny were next in, smacking the ball around and attempting some kamikaze running between the wickets. Did it work? About 50% of the time, every time. Then came our final two batters, Aiden and Seb, who called for a change of equipment. Out went the wooden planks, in came the mighty plastic swords! Another masterstroke from the captain, as the pair slogged their way to a massive 38-run partnership, taking us to a very respectable 80 runs for the innings!

Our turn to defend the total, and the boys absolutely brought the energy! We got the ball on the pitch around 80% of the time and fielded like elite county cricketers. The improvement in consistency and effort is brilliant to see. Leading the charge was Captain Aiden, once again firing them down at the U9 equivalent of Shoaib Akhtar. Absolute rockets! 🚀 A special mention to our debutant, Hudson, who at just 5yrs stepped up to fill the enormous hole left by C-Penny, who was strategically subbed out to keep him fresh for next week. Huddy grabbed the ball, took a casual 25-metre run-up from the boundary and steamed in like Brett Lee for six balls! Almost a bowled, almost a catch to Ollie, and a whole lot of big smiles. That's what it's all about!

Congratulations to our Player-of-the-Match and Wanderers Wingstop Wicket Winner, Captain Aiden, who starred with both bat and ball. A brilliant all-round performance! SPS also put in a notable performance and deserves a shout-out.

Now for what we were really out there for this morning... the snacks, and our parents set the benchmark HIGH this week! We had pre-peeled mandarins (Marc, we trust those hands were washed! 😂), freshly baked cookies, oranges and Zooper Doopers. The boys were all in on Emma's cookies, Marc's peeled mandies weren't getting a look at, so he whipped the Zooper Doopers out, causing a redirection from the cookies to the cooler bag... match fixing at its finest... An extraordinary spread across the board. The boys might be playing cricket, but the parents are competing for the Michelin Star!

A special mention to David for scoring and keeping us umpires in line. A thankless job, especially when we're dealing with this much raw talent! We're seeing improvements every single week, and the boys' confidence is growing. The batting is getting stronger, the bowling more consistent, and the fielding more enthusiastic. A HUGE thank you to all the parents for your support, encouragement, scoring, snacks and general assistance. It makes a massive difference, and the boys are lucky to have such a great group behind them.

U9 Red – LWCC (102) def. Concord Briars Black (95)

Captain Freddy led the Reds in a fantastic team performance as LW U9 Red defeated Briars Black by 7 runs in a match that came down to the last over!

The Reds were outstanding with the ball, restricting Briars Black to 65 runs. Freddy and Adam were remarkably economical, conceding just 3 runs each, while Leo also bowled tightly, giving away only 5 runs. Ari claimed 1 wicket for 7 runs, and Lucy also took 1 wicket, helping the team maintain control throughout the innings. Spencer worked hard in his spell, while the whole team backed up the bowlers with great energy in the field (including the threat of escaping to the toilet and some well earned drinks break in the heat!).

The Reds batted confidently in their run chase, with each pair contributing brilliantly to reach 92 runs. Adam and Lucy opened with a solid 20, followed by Ari and Freddy with 28 setting the platform for Leo and Spencer to bring it home with 44 from their 4 overs.

It was a terrific effort from everyone, with a great all-round team performance - disciplined bowling, enthusiastic fielding and positive batting combining to deliver a well-deserved win. Well done, Reds!

U10 Gold – LWCC (12-118) def. Concord Briars Blue (6-108)

What a marvellous day of cricket!

The Wanderers U10 Gold boys were up against some serious pace and accuracy with the ball, but Max and Jack stood tall, putting together a terrific partnership, with two cracking fours apiece! And what a day for Max, bringing up his highest-ever score of 20 not out!

And then Concord went into bat. Harry claimed a beauty of a wicket, Max chipped in with another, and Jack produced a sensational run out. And well done to Billy with not one, but two brilliant run-outs!

Behind the stumps, Billy and Alfie were superb, while Captain Jack led his troops with great composure and enthusiasm.

But the highlight of the day was the outstanding fielding, camaraderie and encouragement from every single player - for their first win of the season in a real nail-biter, with the Golds holding their nerve to claim victory by just 10 runs.

Well done U10 Golds!

U10 Red – LWCC (5-128) def. Concord Briars Maroon (12-36)

Leichhardt Wanderers U10 Red produced a dominant all round performance against Concord Briars Maroon on Saturday, combining outstanding bowling, sharp fielding and confident batting to record an impressive victory.

Fielding first, the Wanderers immediately took control of the contest through disciplined bowling and relentless pressure in the field. Concord Briars Maroon managed just 12 runs from the bat, with their final score lifted to 36 runs through extras and penalty runs. The Wanderers' attack gave the opposition very few scoring opportunities and regularly struck to keep wickets falling throughout the innings.

The star of the day was undoubtedly Drew whose sensational spell earned him Player-of-the-Match honours. Drew ripped through the Concord Briars batting line-up, finishing with magnificent figures of 3 wickets for just 2 runs from 3 overs, including two maiden overs. His accuracy, consistency and ability to take wickets at crucial moments set the tone for the entire innings.

Drew was brilliantly supported by Ollie, who bowled one of the most economical spells seen this season, taking 2 wickets from 2 overs while conceding no runs, including two maidens. Bodhi also made a major contribution with 2 wickets for 5 runs and was on a hattrick ball, while Ted chipped in with a wicket of his own.

The pressure was maintained from all bowlers. Mateo, Hudson and Sam each conceded just a single run during their spells, while Edgar delivered a maiden over and Frankie kept the scoring in check with a tidy spell that yielded only 3 runs.

Backing up the bowlers was an outstanding fielding performance. Ollie was involved in three run outs through alert fielding and quick hands, while Edgar added another run out as the Wanderers capitalised on every opportunity. The fielders' enthusiasm and teamwork ensured Concord Briars Maroon never found any momentum.

With the match firmly in their control, the Wanderers batted confidently to finish on 128 runs from their 20 overs. Bodhi top scored with an excellent 14 not out, including the team's only boundary of the innings. Ollie continued his outstanding game with 10 runs, while Mateo and Hudson each contributed 9 runs. Ted added 8 runs, Edgar scored 7, Frankie made 5, and Sam added 2 runs. Strong running between the wickets and smart batting partnerships ensured the scoreboard continued to move throughout the innings.

While there were contributions from every player, the performance of Drew stood out. His match winning spell of 3 wickets for 2 runs broke the game open and laid the foundation for a comprehensive Wanderers victory. Supported by outstanding efforts from Ollie and Bodhi, and backed by a terrific team performance in the field and with the bat, U10 Red continued their strong form with their second game of the season. U10 Red marches on hosting Concord Briars Blue this Saturday at Arthur Walker Reserve.

U11 Red – LWCC (6-60) def. by Ryde Hunters Hill Pirates Buccaneers (3-216)

The U11 Red went into the game having prepared well with their first all-team training session and having set a goal to improve the number of runs they score as a team.

In the field, Carter and Hugo took their first wickets of the season and Oscar took his first one of the season too. We played a strong team, which created many fielding opportunities and the Reds put in a huge effort in the field with the day really warming up. Plenty of smiles when they walked off. 4 wickets this week vs. 1 last week!

With the bat, Fred, Jude, Hugh and Hugo all hit their first 4s of the season and there was a hugely improved effort running between the wickets too. A lot of absolutely cracking shots happened to find the hands of some strong opposition fielders - if a few of these had gone 1m either side the scoreline could have been much more flattering for the Reds! We nearly doubled our score from the week before.

There were also some great moments of sportsmanship and the game overall was played in great spirits.

The Reds have set a goal of cracking 100 as a team in the next few weeks, wish us luck!

U11 White – LWCC (4-173) def. Iron Cove Balmain Tigers (11-105)

Another great game by the U11 White boys.

A strong team effort, with all 11 wickets spread throughout the team. A great bowling and fielding effort this week. 9 wickets fell from controlled bowling, which included 5 catches and 2 run-outs.

Then with the bat, our 2 openers got us off to a perfect start with 22 off 26 balls, with some beautifully timed shots, which freed up our tail enders to pile on 48 off 43 balls. All the boys knew their assignment with nice clear calls and no silly runs. Our defensive shots were superb, our opposition only being able to take 4 wickets with the ball.

A special shout out to Zane who battled through not 1 but 2 sand shoe crushers.

U12 Black– LWCC (48) def. by Concord Briars Black (5-49)

A sunny morning for the U12 Blacks at Jessie Stewart Reserve. It was an early finish and the Wanderers suffered defeat… but only just! Our opponents were 6 out but only had 8 players, so one more wicket and we would have won. Our boys showed great sportsmanship and stepped up to help with fielding to make up the shortfall of players on the other team.

Spencer was the top scorer, surviving an impressive 27 balls. Great wickets were taken by Jeremy, Sam W, Spencer and Archie F. But Sam K won the catch of the day… closely followed by Jack’s cheekbone! Archie B also put up an exceptional performance as keeper with his unbeatable reflexes.

Thanks to coach Chris for shepherding our new players into their second game, and the veterans of the team for leading the charge!

U12 Derby – LWCC White (7-105) def. LWCC Gold (8-24)

Another fantastic performance from U12 White, making it two wins from two games with a convincing 81-run victory over our Leichhardt Wanderers clubmates in U12 Gold!

Captain Luca lost the toss, and we were sent in to bat against some accurate bowling that made runs difficult to come by. Jack E and Harry worked hard to see off the new ball, putting together a valuable opening partnership before both reached their retirement limits. Jack E went on to top-score with 20, including two boundaries, while Harry contributed a patient 10.

Jack T kept the scoreboard moving with 11 from just 14 deliveries, before Will and Luca combined for an excellent partnership through the middle overs. Both players retired and came back towards the end, Will playing some lovely attacking shots, scoring 19 not out from 25 balls, including two boundaries. Luca also found the boundary twice on his way to 11 not out.

Spencer made an important contribution later in the innings, scoring 12 from 20 balls and retiring not out. Jude, Oli and Lucy all worked hard to protect their wickets, combining for important partnerships as we batted out the full 30 overs for the first time, eventually finishing on 7-105.

Luca took the new ball and struck in the very first over, bowling Gold's opening batter. He followed up with another wicket in his second over, finishing with outstanding figures of 2-3. At the other end, Spencer was equally impressive, taking two wickets in his second over, both bowled, to finish with 2-2. After just four overs, we were on top.

Krish was lively in the field all day, supporting and celebrating his teammates before producing two magnificent maiden overs. Lucy continued the wicket-taking with two wickets in consecutive deliveries, including a sensational catch by Luca in the covers, before being too good for the next batsman, bowling him on the very first ball. The field came in for her hat-trick ball, narrowly missing the stumps and almost creating a stumping. Her figures of 2-3 were an excellent reward for her bowling.

The pressure never eased. Jack E delivered another two maiden overs, giving him four maidens from four overs across the first two games of the season. Jude worked through two overs of his own, helping keep the batters under pressure, while Jack T was almost impossible to score from, conceding just one run from two overs and taking a terrific caught-and-bowled wicket.

Finally, Oli wrapped up the innings with a wicket in his second over, finishing with 1-1 as Gold were dismissed for just 24. It was an extraordinary collective bowling effort. Eight bowlers were used, five took wickets, and between them we conceded just eight runs from the bat across more than 15 overs!

There are plenty of contenders for Player-of-the-Mach this week, but ultimately it was awarded to Luca, for leading the team to victory with an excellent all-round performance.

Two games, two wins, and most importantly, lots of kids enjoying their cricket as we continue adjusting to U12 cricket.

Well played, everyone!

U12 Red – LWCC (5-219) def. Concord Briars Maroon (8-45)

Lost the toss and sent into bat.

With one player out injured and two coming late with school commitments, it was imperative that our top order got to retirement. Hats off to Oscar R top score 40 runs, Emmett H 24 runs, John O 25 runs, Adam S 25* and Dylan C 20* all getting to retirement. The running between the wickets from the top five was nothing short of outstanding.

In my years with this team that has been the best opening and middle order batting that I have seen. And just when you think it could not get better Jacob W running across town to support his team came in with a cameo of 29* off 12 balls.

Comfortably that we had a good lead, the job was not done. Oscar R a very part-time keeper, took the gloves so that our number one gloveman Emmett H could have a bowl. And he took a wicket bowling the opening bat. Oscar R took a smart caught behind, bowled by Mr. Energy Dylan C. A wicket each to John O & Arek M. Adam S bowled an impressive over, being a maiden, and graciously gave up his second over to Axel F so that all players got to have a bowl. That Leichhardt spirit of mate-ship (friends for life) paid off with Axel F taking the last wicket. Bowler of the match was Jacob W with the outstanding figures of 2 overs 1 Maiden 3 wickets for 7. And three cheers for Axel Fs twin Sister Ella F for fielding for the Briars and for her brothers’ team. Ella, you are more than welcome to come and train with the boys each Thursday. Your contribution was valuable and we will need you again. Well done young lady the boys and the opposition appreciate your contribution.

Next week is a local Derby with equal competition leaders LW White which will be a sell out, so I suggest you purchase your tickets early so as to avoid disappointment.

Coach Adam R

U13 Derby – LWCC White (7-217) def. LWCC Black (139)

Black

It was a glorious afternoon for cricket down at Callan Park for round 2 and our second internal club derby of the year.

We bowled first on a super fast outfield, with and any loose deliveries shooting off for byes and anything short similarly punished by the batters. The fielding was energetic and sharp throughout though (and a huge step-up from last year), with Finn and Toby both hitting the stumps directly from the outfield for much needed run outs. The bowlers took regular wickets too, with the best figures going to Felix 2-16, Finn 1-23, Caleb 1-33 and Noah 1-41. But the run rate never really let up through the innings, and when it was our turn to bat, we’d need more than seven runs an over to chase down the total.

Openers Angus (48*) and Felix (27) got the chase off to a flying start, keeping pace with the required run rate until they had to retire. Then Noah (19) and Finn, with his highest ever score of 12, chipped in to keep the dream alive, but with two batters short it was always going to be a difficult ask. Angus continued slapping fours to the boundary when he came back, but ultimately ran out of partners, unlucky to be stranded just short of his 50, but it was his highest score nonetheless and a huge reward for all the work he has been putting in off the field.

It was one of those games, where even though we lost on the scoreboard, there were so many excellent performances and personal bests it felt like a win. Big thanks the Black team for sharing fielders and covering the umpiring for an ailing coach - much appreciated!

White

Captain Lincoln called the toss, with LWCC Black winning and electing to field first. We came up against the team that had pushed us to our highest score ever, and today's match certainly didn't disappoint!

We lost early wickets to some great fielding by LWCC Black, but the boys steadied themselves, built some excellent partnerships and improved their running between the wickets. Contributions from across the team helped us register our highest team score ever.

Our bowling and fielding were also much improved. LWCC Black batted stubbornly and continued to fight, even as our bowlers and fielders began to find their rhythm. Their runs kept coming, but so did the wickets, until they finally ran out of wickets in the 26th over, bringing an end to a wonderful contest on a hot Saturday.

It was a great match for our boys to continue developing as a team. The improvements from week to week are significant, and we can't wait to go again this week for our Halloween game!

Flynn and Lincoln opened our innings against LWCC Black's strongest bowlers. Flynn hit the first ball for a brilliant boundary off a no ball but was unfortunately bowled the very next delivery. Milosh came to the crease and hit a boundary off his first ball. He made a quick 9 runs off 14 balls before being unfortunately run out following some great fielding.

Emerson continued where he left off last week, getting the scoreboard moving alongside Lincoln until Lincoln was caught pushing the run rate. We were scoring runs but losing wickets, leaving us at 3-52 in the 7th over. Cricket can be such a roller coaster sometimes!

Owen joined Emerson in the middle to steady the ship. They continued to score runs and both retired not out, hoping to return later in the innings. Unfortunately, Paddy and Xander fell quickly, bringing the score to 5-81 before the 15th-over drinks break.

We discussed needing to play the balls being bowled and take our chances when they come. Benji and Sebastian took on the bowling and began to build the score. Their running between the wickets was textbook, turning every opportunity into a run and pressuring the fielders into errors. Both Benji and Sebastian retired not out in the 22nd over, bringing Jack to the crease alongside Emerson. They went to work getting runs until Emerson was given out LBW, but not before we had added another 100 runs since the previous wicket!

We were 6-180 in the 25th over, eyeing off our highest-ever score and the magical 200-run mark. Our last wicket to fall was Owen. We were 7-194, with a new team record and 200 runs within our reach. Sebastian (19 not out) and Benji (32 not out) finished the innings unbeaten. We ended on 7-217 - a new team record! What an effort from the boys. We were ready to head back out and defend our total.

Paddy opened our bowling and delivered one tidy over before heading off to his basketball duties. The Sawers brothers, Lincoln and Flynn, took over and did an excellent job of restricting the run rate early. However, any loose deliveries were quickly punished, and LWCC Black's run rate was superior to ours at the same stage of the innings.

Their first wicket finally came when Benji took a catch off Emerson's tidy seam bowling. LWCC Black were 1/66 in the 10th over. They had the superior run rate, but luckily for us only had five wickets in hand. After that wicket the run rate slowed on either side of the drinks break as our bowlers and fielders found their groove. The pressure continued to build until Xander took a great catch off Sebastian's bowling. LWCC Black were 2-86 in the 16th over.

That wicket gave our bowlers and fielders the juice they needed! Another breakthrough quickly followed, with Owen taking a great catch off Benji's bowling. LWCC Black were 3-91 in the 19th over. Then in came Flynn, knocking over two batters' wickets in the 20th over. Suddenly, LWCC Black were 5-97 in the 20th over, with just one wicket remaining. The boys from LWCC Black batted heroically and held on until the 26th over, when Milosh claimed their final wicket, with Lincoln taking the catch. A fantastic effort from our bowlers and fielders to close out the innings!

Well done to LWCC Black for fighting right to the end on a very hot day. Congratulations to LWCC White on the victory and most importantly, the spirit in which the match was played by both teams. Our team bounced back from last week and proved that when we play together as a team, we can compete, improve and have fun along the way. The effort, determination and resilience shown by every player should give us plenty of confidence for the rest of the season.

I'm looking forward to training and next week's game. This result bodes well for the weeks ahead, and it's exciting to see the boys continuing to improve week after week. Go Wanderers!

U15 Gold – LWCC (59) def. by Concord Briars Black (2-64)

Well, it was a tough old day at the office for the U15 Golds against Briars on Saturday.

Batting first, we struggled to get going against some tidy bowling and were bowled out for 59. James A was the standout with the bat, battling hard for 22 off 33 balls, Patrick couldn't quite replicate his heroics from last week with the bat, but he made his mark with the ball later on.

Defending a modest total, the boys kept trying. James backed up his innings with a tidy spell (2 overs for 11), and Patrick broke through with 2 wickets to give us something to cheer about. Archer H also chipped in with a great catch in the field. Unfortunately, Briars chased the target in under 8 overs to finish 2-64.

It wasn't our day, but the boys have been training well and the effort is there. Go Golds!

U11 Girls Black – LWCC (8-103) def. by Summer Hill/Ashfield (4-108)

In our second match of the year we took on the combined Summer Hill and Ashfield U11 Girls team. A warm and breezy afternoon. Perfect conditions for a game of cricket.

There's so much to be proud of in this match as the team continue to form stronger bonds as a playing group.

Evelina was our fearless captain this week who won the toss and elected to put the opposition into bat. How bowling show definite signs of improvement right across the board and we secured four wickets in the first innings with a couple of fantastic runouts thanks to Astrid, and Audrey. Florence and Scarlett took up wicket keeping duties and did a fantastic job.

When it came to our turn to bat, Evie and Annabel opened the batting and got us off to an incredibly strong start with some big hits, quality fours and really good running between the wickets. They really set the tone for Scarlett, Elise, Annabelle and Iluka who continued to take cheeky singles, call loudly and put the pressure on as the fielders, even if it didn't work out all of the time.

Unfortunately a few really good run-outs against us coupled with some late bowled out wickets meant that we were ever so close but unable to secure the win. But so much to be proud of in that game, including continuing to form great friendships and have fun!

Well done girls! 👍

U11 Girls Red – LWCC (2-127) def. Marrickville Flaherty (4-97)

Saturday marked the first home game of the season for the U11 Reds and despite the rain, the Blackmore outfield was playing like Rawalpindi. Coco won an important toss against Marrickville and elected to bat in warm conditions. The Reds turned up with 9 players, and with it the chance to rotate players on and off the field which helped in the heat.

Zoe smacked the first ball of the innings through mid-on for four and was unlucky to face 9 no-balls in her remaining quota. Susie hit two fours to top score with 15 and Imogen ran aggressively to add 11 important runs toward the end of the innings. Crucially, just two wickets fell as the girls all batted with growing confidence. 58 runs scored was a high for the Reds and contributed to 127 and a strong total to defend.

After 6 packs of lollies and an icy pole each it was time to take the field for the second half. The girls bowled tightly at the top of the innings and Charlotte took an excellent caught behind off Zoe's tidy bowling. Gigi bowled very well on debut - indeed her first time ever bowling. The fielding was tight and thoughtful, capped off by Imogen's 10 overs behind the stumps, where she snagged a run out and concede 0 byes. The Reds kept Marrickville to 97 to end with a strong win and it was off to the sideline for more lollies and a two-tier human pyramid photo.

Despite a mix of new and existing players, the team spirit is already thriving and most importantly, the girls are enjoying their cricket.

U13 Girls Red – LWCC (0-41) def. Randwick Belles (39)

Leichhardt Wanderers hosted Randwick Belles at the picturesque Steele Park at Marrickville on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

The two Emily’s won the toss and decided to bowl. Emily H and Karthi bowled 4 very tight overs to get us started with Karthi taking a handy early wicket. Hannah also grabbed a scalp.

But then the star of the day came on to bowl with Emily M taking career best figures of 4-3 off her 3 overs. If the umpires had agreed to play LBW, she would have had 6 or 7!

Our turn to bat and Emily H and Ophelia opened and got us off to a flying start and Hannah came in and hit the winning runs.

A great win for our girls. We are forming into a strong team with a wonderful bond between all the girls.

U13 Girls Black – LWCC (5-31) def. by Summer Hill (0-33)

A big WELL DONE to the girls for their first game for the 2026/27 season. We were up against a much more experienced Summer Hill Team, with the bulk of their players backing up for their second season in U13s.

Summary of Achievements:

  • First U13s game ✔️

  • Batting fears faced ✔️

  • 3 retirees - amazing! ✔️

  • Batted for 20 overs with wickets in hand ✔️

  • Had great fun with our friends ✔️

A special mention regarding the great positive and 'can do' attitude from our 3 new to cricket girls - Anushkaa, Maddie and Zinnia. Really impressive.

We have an extremely proud coach. Can't wait to hone our skills at training and push for further improvement as the season progresses.

Stage 3 Girls Black – LWCC (5-72) def. by St George (2-125)

The Wanderers travelled to St George for an away match by the river, full of positive energy from the outset.

Ava kept wicket for the first time and celebrated with a terrific caught behind. Not to be outdone, sister Cate snaffled a sharp catch off Tara’s bowling, securing Tara’s first wicket for the club. While a few too many wides and no balls proved costly, the girls showed great determination with the bat, using all 20 overs. Charlotte, Aditi, Sofia and Indi played some powerful shots, while Tara, Indi and Savvy retired and Cate finished not out.

Sideline support from players and parents was superb - encouragement and sharing the duties made for a fun day of cricket.

Stage 3 Girls Red – LWCC (3-140) def. Randwick Belles (6-62)

Back at a sunny Timbrell Park, LWCC Stage 3 Red took on a young but enthusiastic Randwick Belles team in a match full of runs, wickets and plenty of smiles.

Asked to bat first, the Reds got straight to work, posting an impressive 140 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets. Saskia led the charge with a cracking 45 off 26 balls, while Annie chipped in with a fine 22 off 20. Ginger added a valuable 18 off 20, and Zoe contributed a tidy 11 off 20. It was a strong team effort that gave the bowlers plenty to work with!

With 140 on the board, Captain Connie rallied her troops and led the bowling attack from the front, setting the standard with a solid spell of 4 overs, 1-24. But the standout bowler of the day was Chloe, who unleashed a superb spell of fast bowling, finishing with 3 wickets for just 11 runs off 4 overs. The Belles certainly had their work cut out! Wicketkeeper Zoe also joined the wicket-taking party, picking up a tidy 1-2 off 2 overs.

While the scoreboard favoured the Reds, the real win was the spirit of the game. Both teams cheered each other on, supported their teammates

A big thank you to the parents who scored, umpired and wrestled with the tents in the afternoon heat. The players may have been chasing runs, but the parents were chasing

shade! ☀️

Senior B Grade – LWCC (6-203) def. by St Mathews (274)

Lovely day out for B's - didn't get the win but some good positives from a match against a tough opposition that moved down from A grade.

Starting with only 7 in the field was a shame as we probably let them cruise to 40 odd off four overs. Then we tightened up and had some great spells. If not for a couple of unfortunate dropped catches, and a gash on my chin due to one, we probably would have had the upper hand. Great spells from basically the whole team - well done. Chris got 3, Matt, Asif and Tom got 2, and I picked up 1.

They set 274 for us to chase, not the largest total we've chased on that ground. Jimmy got us off to a cracker but unfortunately no one could stick around with him. Finally Master Rod comes in and steadies the ship, rotating the strike and playing a few neat shots himself for 29. Tom smashed a quick fire 30. Then Liam (9) rotated the strike long enough for Jimmy to ton up, finishing on an unbeaten 104. Well done Jimmy on the first ton of the season and for the Wandies - I'm surprised it's taken this long.

We left 71 runs short. But feeling like if we tightened a few areas (including arrival time hehe) we can really give these lads a run for their money. On to the next, rip in.

A note regarding uniform order collection. After a huge pre-season with several events arranged specifically for uniform collection, we are no longer providing large-scale "collection windows" - whilst we mean this respectfully, it is simply an inefficient use of our volunteers' time. Therefore, to collect any remaining orders which are yet to be collected - or for any new orders placed - collection will need to be arranged directly with the club. Please email leichhardtcricket@gmail.com to ask how this works.
