There are opportunities for both boys and girls once they finish their junior cricketing journey with Leichhardt Wanderers.
Most juniors finish playing club cricket when they are around 15 or 16 years old. Many of them are then lost to the game of cricket (and indeed all other sports) at this age. We want to make sure that you are aware of the options available for the players once they reach the end of their time playing junior cricket at LWCC.
Options for Girls
There used to be very limited options for girls once they finished playing junior cricket. Either they were talented enough to play NSW Premier Cricket or they were (more often than not) left with nowhere to play. This year Burwood Briars are looking to create a pathway into their Shires teams for girls and have kindly extended an invitation to LWCC players to trial for them. Cricket NSW has also created a new option called the Twilight Womens Cricket League. We understand there is a plan for one of these competitions to be based in the Inner West. More details are available here.
Options for Boys
Leichhardt Wanderers senior teams play on Saturday afternoons (typically 35 over matches) from late September to March. We have had many juniors progressing into the Seniors team and we have two teams who are very welcoming for all players. Registration is possible via the Play Cricket website.
