February 28th / March 1st, 2026.
Things are heating up now! (Not literally though... with a spot of rain on Friday spoiling the penultimate round for our U10s and our keen U9s - very disappointing!). For our IWHJCA comps, this weekend will be the final round of the season for many teams who're out of the running for finals. We hope you've enjoyed your cricket - give it everything you've got for your games this weekend! For others, it all comes down to Saturday to see if they progress another week - we wish you all the best of luck and hope the chips fall our way! For our Sixers Leagues, there are two regular rounds left, with those all-important top two spots within reach for some - we also wish you the very best of luck as we approach season's end!
Whatever happens this weekend, the club is proud of every single player, coach, manager and volunteer - we are all Leichardt Wanderers through and through!
Congratulations to Adelaide Done, from our U13 Girls team, who was selected for the Sydney East Girls PSSA cricket team and competed in the NSW Girls Cricket Championship in Armidale from 16-19 February 2026. Adelaide's team played 350 overs over 4 days and impressively performed throughout the tournament!

Match Reports
U8 White – (4-98) def. Ryde Hunters Hill Pirates Cannons (9-66)
Another wet end to the week saw the U8 Wanderers (White) facing the RHH Cannons on a slippery Boronia Park surface, with the added challenge of some uneven bounce from the long grass.
The Wanderers lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Oliver and Theo opened proceedings with a solid 20-run partnership for no wickets lost, hampered by a slow outfield that would have seen a number of their shots run to the boundary on any other day. Austen & Arjun picked the run-rate up with some solid boundaries, finishing with 28 runs for their partnership (and Austen top-scoring with 18), and Alfie rounded off the innings with some quick singles and clever running with his batting partners for a Wanderers batting total of 4-53.
There were some nerves on display at the halfway mark of the game, but the boys refocused their jelly snake energy on the "bonus runs" on offer from taking wickets in their bowling innings. Down to five players on the field this week (vs the Cannons with eight fielders), Oliver opened the bowling with a gem of a delivery - pitching in the batter's "corridor of uncertainty" and rising to strike the top of off-stump for a Wanderers first-ball wicket.
The wicket lit a fuse in the field, and at the halfway mark of the Cannons' innings, the Wanderers had kept them pinned to 4-17.
The third batting pair for the Cannons put on a solid run chase adding 21 runs, but Theo and Arjun put a dent in their momentum with some sharp bowling a further three wickets.
The Wanderers were reduced to four on the field for the last few overs of the match (with Oliver needing to retire early for birthday commitments), and the boys welcomed Archie from the Cannons as a substitute fielder. With big fielding shoes to fill and the game in the balance, Archie assisted with two direct-hit run outs before the Cannons parents subbed him off the field... the boys gave Archie a coveted jelly snake at the end of the match for his efforts 👏
Arjun finished with 3-5 off 2 overs (including a wicket-maiden), and Theo posted his second 4-wicket haul for the season with 4-6 off his 3 overs, including two wicket-maidens!
Well done Wanderers!
U11 Girls Black – LWCC (4-116) def. by Summer Hill Gold (6-123)
Round 5 of the Girls Summer comp saw the U11 LWCC Black team taking on Summer Hill at Cohen Park. Coming off a fairly flat performance in the heat the week before and not training either, one could have been forgiven in thinking the girls might be a little off their game. But the performance was anything but that! Both coach and manager had chats to the players asking them to really emphasise running between the wickets today, as few previous weeks had passed with runs left behind due to not taking our singles when available.
We were sent in to bat and Ella and Annabelle got us off to a great start, running well together and setting the example for those to follow. Handy runs from Evelina, Annie and Elsie (getting her highest score ever by taking plenty of sharp singles) put us in with a shot at the break! The running was a standout from all across the park, and this energy flowed into the fielding. Missing our strike bowler Lucia, it was going to be important for others to step up, and did they what! Ella was tidy and bagged a couple, Annie was back to her best, Audrey got her first ever wicket and Alexia and Elsie impressed. But it was the fielding that set the crowd alight! Diving saves from Anabel, direct hits from Bonnie, excellent keeping from Alexia, backing up with urgency from all. It was amazing. Eight wickets in total, our best ever wicket haul!
The excitement built as the lead changed with wickets and runs taken by both teams. It went down to dramatic last over with only 1 run in it, and in the end it was Summer Hill who got the job done. But the result was less important than the excitement of the performance by the girls. It was by far the Black teams greatest ever performance and all went home as proud as the could be after what they had just done!
The lineup:

U11 Derby – LWCC Gold (5-111) def. by LWCC Red (6-115)
Red
LWCC U11 Red knew that a Derby win was a must, for their last regular game of the season, to move up the ladder and into a finals position…
Batting first, on a wet outfield, the team knew running hard between the wickets was the only way to keep the scoreboard ticking along. And so it proved as a strong LWCC Gold attack kept the run-rate low and were excellent in the field. The opening paring of Jeremy (11) and Rohan (13) were solid in their performance to get the team off and running. Archie B (9) and Sam (12) in next, again did well, however 4 batters down and no chance of a boundary, the runs were limited to singles and the odd double.
Alarmingly as well the LWCC Gold were picking up wickets, either from great catches or run-outs. Finn (11) and Spencer (4) tried to get the run-rate moving, with Finn scoring our first boundary of the day. Last up was Patrick (10) who continued is fine form with the bat this season and got the other only boundary of the day for the team. 87 with the bat was a low of the season, but this team has had wickets in them to help their score along.
From the first over the pressure was on, there was no room for errors, and they really had to limit the Gold team scoring while taking some wickets themselves. In the second over Rohan made a breakthrough with a wicket! Jeremy picked one up soon after with a caught behind from Archie B. By the drinks break at the halfway stage it was still very much any bodies game. With 3 overs to go the LWCC Gold needed less than 1 run a ball to win. Rohan came on to bowl, and it proved to be a pivotal moment in the match. Two wickets with two catches from Jeremy, and then followed up with a run out, again from Jeremy!
The last over had the parents on the edge of their seats (two new ones from Sarah)….6 runs required from 6 balls. Rohan again taking his third over with the ball. Dot from the first ball, 2 runs from the second, but a run out from the 3rd, AGAIN from Jeremy, saw the team home for a win of just 4 runs.
Player-of-the-match went to Jeremy: 1 wicket, 2 catches and 2 run-outs! Finals cricket here we come!

Gold
There is always a bit more pride at stake when playing another Leichhardt Wanderers team and this game certainly did not disappoint. Despite all the rain, Campbell Park was not too soggy, but batting second was always going to be the sensible option.
Luckily for the Golds, Captain Ben T won the toss and sent the Reds into bat. Harvey B opened the bowling for the Gold’s and cleaned bowled their opener off the last ball of his first over, to get us off to a nice start. Jack B, Joe G, Rory P and Jonah P then followed with some tidy bowling but it was not until the 6th over when Reef R bowled a screamer to get the ball edged into the air for a tidy catch by wicket keeper Ben T. Gus CN and Harvey B bowled another neat set of deliveries, but the Reds kept ticking over the scoreboard.
Jack B returned to the attack with a new lease of life in his bowling, getting some nice outside movement off the seam... this tricky movement had the batters reaching and in do so popped one up for the ever-trusty grip of Harvey B, adding to his tally of impressive season catches.
Next wicket did not come until the 12th over when again Harvey B’s hot hands, this time as wicket keeper took a great catch off the bowling of Rory P. It is worth mentioning that Harvey B’s ten-over stint behind the stumps yielded not one bye for 10 overs - this magnificent effort saw Harvey B receive the team’s nomination for player-of-the-match... well done Harvey!
Jonah P got into the action with his first of two ‘caught and bowled’ was an incredible effort and the second catch was an absolute screamer… The Reds batted on stoutly but some patience and wise fielding by Jack B and Reef R saw the Golds snag two late run outs. Overall, our bowling and fielding was tight, but one or two extras and a few missed catches would ultimately be the difference in this game.
Captain Ben T and Harvey B opened the batting, and both got the run chase off to a solid start, again some quick running between the wickets kept the fielders busy - soon Rory P and Gus CN came into bat and had to stave off some fast direct bowling. Jonah P and Jack B came to the crease and continued with some nice hitting, but with one or two wickets now starting to fall the Red’s total looked less likely. Joe G came to the crease and managed to hit the ball twice, straight down the same fielder’s throat, bad luck Joe - it happens to the best of us!
Reef R rounded out our batting order and what a fantastic knock hitting 17 runs off his 15 balls, must be the ‘vintage County cricket bat’ - keep using it! It was a nailbiter to the end with ultimately just 4 runs in it. Well done boys, best effort by the Golds, so far this season and best of luck to the Reds for the remainder of the year - good to see a LWCC team heading for the finals!

U12 Derby – LWCC Black (7-64) def. by LWCC White (5-186)
Black
Asked to bowl first, things got off to a great start with Caleb (1-20) taking a wicket in the first over, with a quick, swinging delivery that rattled into the top of middle and off. The White team then settled in before Noah snatched a sharp catch at keeper off Dilhan's (2-13) always bowling, then Toby hit the stumps from backstop for a runout in the same over to get us back into the game. But The White batters got back on top with good batting and gratefully accepted all the free extras we gifted them. Angus (0-10) bowled really well with good pace and bounce but no luck and Toby (1-24) chimed in with another wicket, but in the end it was a sizeable total of 186 to chase down.
Openers Dilhan and Noah S got us off to the best start for months, with a 29 run partnership to set up the run chase . Angus and Caleb kept the momentum going, edging the total up towards 50, before a couple of quick wickets had us on the ropes and put the total beyond reach. The Whites sensed blood in the water and thought the game was over before drinks, but Rufus and Toby put a high price on their wickets, battling through bravely for another nine overs, gaining confidence the longer they occupied the crease. Unfortunately they were eventually dismissed in consecutive balls leaving Henry stranded at the other end before he got a chance to face a ball. A shame in only his second game of cricket ever, but he showed great promise with his bowling, narrowly missing a caught and bowled chance and making excellent saves in the field.
Congratulations to the White team for the win - only one more game to go. Where has the season gone?
White
Black Captain called “flats”… and it was hills! Our first win of the toss in 6 matches! We chose to bat first to avoid bowling and fielding first with a wet ball. After breaking through for a win last week, we were determined to go back-to-back. Wanderers Black, despite struggling for victories recently, caused us real problems the last time we met - so we weren’t taking this game lightly.
We opened with the Sawers brothers, Flynn & Lincoln. The Black opening bowlers were sharp, their fielders energetic, and the damp pitch caused the ball to skid on. They struck early. Despite Lincoln striking the ball well, we suddenly found ourselves 3-35 after 6 overs. When Sebastian Lewis fell in the 10th over, we were 4-51, short on run rate and running out of wickets. That’s when Paddy joined Xander in the middle - and the momentum shifted. The pair put together a crucial 51-run partnership, with Xander retiring not out. Paddy began timing the ball beautifully, then combined with Owen to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Paddy was eventually undone by a clever slower ball, departing with the score at 5-120 in the 19th over - now we were in control. Milosh joined Owen and the runs continued to flow until both retired ot out, handing over to Jack and Freddie to close out the innings.
After 30 overs: 5-186 - we had our highest team score of the season. A complete batting effort with contributions right through the order. Now… its time to bowl and field.
Black began steadily, not losing their first wicket until the 8th over. Their opening batsman and Captain was caught at cover by Xander Shen off Jack Malone’s bowling. They moved to 2-42 in the 12th over when Owen Sharkey bowled their other opener. Then came a game-changing spell from Milosh.
He bowled the new batter first ball of his over. Next ball — a sharp chance taken on the boundary by Freddie. Black were suddenly 4-44 after 13 overs. Milosh was on a hat-trick. Sebastian wanted in on the action and struck next over, with Xander catching again safe at cover. Black were 5/52 in the 14th over, running out of wickets and momentum.
Disciplined bowling, sharp fielding and maiden overs built relentless pressure. The final two wickets resisted until the 24th over. Enter Paddy. First ball - bowled. Second ball - sensational catch by Flynn at gully, just getting his fingers under it to seal the innings.
All out for 64. A dominant bowling and fielding display.
Batting Highlights
Paddy McColough – 35 (21), 7x fours
Owen Sharkey – 32* (25), 6x fours
Lincoln Sawers – 21 (15), 3x fours
Bowling Highlights
Milosh Pajovic - 2-3 (2 overs)
Paddy McColough - 2-5 (2.2 overs)
Benji Roy - 0-0 (2 maiden overs)
Well done to Wanderers White for another complete performance. Congratulations to Wanderers Black for fighting hard despite missing players. This was our strongest all-round performance of the season - our best combined effort with bat, ball and in the field. It bodes very well heading into the final game of the regular season.
Go Wanderers!

U12 Derby – LWCC Red (120) def. LWCC Gold (24)
Winning the toss and electing to bat with an extremely wet outfield. Black was trying hard to keep the ball dry, but only after 5 overs it was very hard for them to bowl, and extras became the top score. Ben S, Oscar R & Emmett H, all got to retirement. Topping the runs Emmett 21*. Coming out to bowl, conditioned had significantly improved to a dry track. Leo L was the gloveman for the first 15 and was tidy. Unlucky not to glove some difficult chances. Ben S having a great game claimed the first wicket in the 2nd over. Emmett H took a couple of wickets including a great catch to Daniel F. Emmett H decided to repay the favour and Daniel took a very smart catch to Emmett’s bowling. Connie R took a terrific C&B. Henry R delivered another mystery ball and claimed a clean bowled, followed by a great delivery from Kiran C, to rock the castle.
With three of our boys away, it was wonderful result and thanks again Connie R for filling in. Sorry I judged you out LBW, maybe it pitched outside as I was reminded? But it was a master off-spin delivery from Xavier M with a wet ball, the best I have seen all season.

U13 Girls – LWCC (7-22) def. by Randwick Daredevils (7-132)
A tough day at the office for the U13 Girls. Sofia lost the toss and Randwick batted first. Our bowling started well with Emily getting 2 clean bowled and Karthika also getting 2 wickets. We tried hard in the field and never gave up. Karthika took 2 catches and a direct hit run-out. But Randwick posted a very strong 132.
Our batting started badly and got worse! Coupled with some straight bowling and a dose of bad luck we fell well short of their total. There is always next week.
U13 Derby – LWCC White (3-65) def. LWCC Gold (63)
The Whites fielded first and put on an impeccable display of team bowling, their best by far all season. Each bowler found their rhythm early and maintained pressure in every over. The catching was sharp too. Wickets were shared around (Oliver x1, Eamon x1, Archer x2, James L x2, Noah x1, Oscar M x1). Eamon (x1), Jacob (x1) and Oliver (x2) took catches.
The batting was good too, and had to see off some very good seam and spin bowling. Jacob and Kurtis each retired after 20 balls. Archer got some runs. James A and James L finished the chase in the 13th over.
Highlights were (i) the team chemistry, with the boys being in serious game-mode from warm-up (the coach only had to watch with pride), (ii) the peppering of off/4th stump, with four bowled, one caught behind and another four balls edged between second slip and keeper (I hope we learn from this), (iii) one of Oliver’s catches, being a screamer from a very well hit ball to mid-on, and (iv) playing in the right spirit against club mates from the Gold team.

U13 Sabres – LWCC (4-90) def. Summer Hill Blue (8-87)
This week our Sabres U13 boys faced Summer Hill Blue in a must-win encounter to keep our top two aspirations alive. Riding the momentum of back-to-back victories, the team approached the match full of belief and purpose.
Summer Hill won the toss and chose to bat, aiming to build scoreboard pressure. What followed, however, was a dream start for the Sabres. Oliver took the new ball and started in the most emphatic fashion. His very first delivery was a superb inswinger, curling in sharply to uproot middle stump, clean bowling the opener. A wicket with the opening ball of the match - the perfect start. The celebrations captured the mood: energy high, belief soaring, and momentum instantly with the Sabres.
The pressure didn’t ease. Tight, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding saw wickets tumble at regular intervals. At one stage, Summer Hill were in serious trouble at 5-23. Credit to their lower order who dug in and showed resilience, eventually guiding their side to a total of 87.
Archer led the way with the ball, finishing with an outstanding 3 for 14 from his 5 overs and even finding himself bowling for a hat-trick at one point. Kurtis provided excellent support with 2 wickets, while James A, Oliver and Jacob each claimed one.
Chasing 88, the Sabres were confident - but cricket always keeps you honest. A quick-fire 16 from Jacob Skowno gave us early momentum before two rapid wickets left us 2-19. Another couple of quick dismissals could have shifted the pressure squarely onto the middle/lower order.
Pleasingly, Eamon (12*) and James L (12*) steadied the innings with calm, intelligent batting. They rotated the strike effectively, punished loose deliveries, and resisted unnecessary risks - exactly what the situation required. With around 35 runs needed and six wickets in hand, we were in control. Yet a pair of quick wickets suddenly had coaches, players and supporters on edge. The tension rose, but the belief remained.
That belief proved justified. James A played a decisive and aggressive innings, finishing unbeaten on 33 from just 27 balls, striking the ball cleanly and confidently. He was well supported by Kurtis (8*), with the pair guided the Sabres home to secure a crucial victory.
Another very good performance from the entire team, and now three wins in a row, with our top two hopes still alive.
Stage 3 Girls – LWCC (8-62) def. by Ryde Hunters Hill Pirates (4-142)
We won the toss and chose to bowl at the lovely Boronia Park in Hunters Hill. Connie (0-8) and Ava opened the bowling against the Pirate’s strong first batting pair. Sofia (1-11) took the first wicket - a great catch by Lila. Their batters kept plugging away and made a very good total, but we were able to execute an excellent run out off a no ball (great work Connie and Aditi!), Charlotte threw down some rockets (0-8) and Aditi (1-18) also had a brilliant caught and bowled. Ava, Lila, Carmen and Zoe were solid in the field and behind the stumps, and all the girls bowled well too.
It was always going to be a tough chase, but Charlotte got us off to a great start 7* (16 - 1 four) and was supported well by Connie 6* (20 - 1 four). Ellen batted really well, as did Bella and Cate, Aditi hit a great shot for (nearly) 4 runs and Sofia was strong with the bat, top scoring with 12* (20).
It was another good performance against a very strong rep-filled team.
The team should one again be proud of their efforts and their enthusiasm and support.
U15 Black – LWCC (9-120) def. by Concord Briars Black (130)
Be careful what you wish for we sometimes say, forever we’re wanting to bat first. Please - let us bat first. If only we can win the toss and bat first.
So here it went. We won the toss. Chose to bowl. LOL. We’re at Edwards Park, Concord, with a pretty lousy bowlers run-up and grass that belongs in a museum more than a cricket pitch - but it’s better than the plastic proposal at Callan Park. (Too late to oppose this now sadly… we need real grass at the home of cricket).
Xavier and Linus opened the bowling in fine style, probing the outside edge, almost tormenting the batsmen with some gentle away movement. We started loading in more slips and brought the field in. Eventually it took its toll, Linus (1-17 off 4) claimed his scalp taking off stump with him. Quite satisfying wicket. One opener, a good ‘reps’ buddy went onto make a fine 28 (41) before being bowled by Lachlan Ash, who had a terrific day with the ball, (3-6 off 3). Xavier (0-13 off 4), Barnabas (0-20 off 3) who also finished his day with two fine catches.
I will interrupt this broadcast to comment on the extras. Only 6 illegal deliveries this innings. Very tidy, and well done everyone. AND - 6 catches in total: Austin, George, Barnabas x2, Nevaan, Xavier. All fine catches, which did help turn the innings. Well done to all. Special mention to Caleb (Xavier’s younger brother) who filled in for a Covid affected Ronav, had a fantastic attempt on a catch nobody would have taken really. Well done to you. He also took a wicket, thanks for George’s terrific catch giving Caleb figures of 1-13 off 1.5.
Ryan had the spell of his summer. Brilliant bowling. Line and length could not be beaten in this case. Unlucky with wickets, but stats don’t always tell this story (0-6 off 3). Austin defied all odds and recovered from illness to take 2-10 off 4, one being a caught and bowled to dismiss the venerable run machine Josh Amparo, who this week was reduced to just 9 (10). Another outstanding wicket was Max, who ducked himself, caught Xavier, bowled Lachlan. That was a bit sad and a bit funny all in one.
Sam (c) took a tight 1-4 off 3, George 1-12 off 1, and Nevaan 0-13 off 3. Overall a positive day in the field, good efforts and discipline kept their total to 130 from 29.5 overs. Very achievable total for us.
We opened the batting (opting to chase runs, I might add - not a bad decision just funny really) with Nevaan and Sam. Courtesy of some very ordinary short pitched bowling, Sammy went about dispatching every second ball to the fence, albeit on a thick and lush ground that didn’t reward ground strokes very well unless you made your shots airborne. He was rewarded with a very fine innings of 42 (39) with good support from Nevaan* 26 (49). Xavier unfortunately ran out in disastrous circumstances 2 (3). Lesson here is loud clear calls, and batters support each other or this will happen.
Barnabas was held down a bit by some tight bowling and a slow field, 7 (21), but he kept his head down and pushed forward. Austin 2 (7) unluckily spooned a catch to the infield. Conor did his best to get the runs going, got out in the process to an absolutely brilliant catch at mid wicket by Cheese (aka Cooper) for 12 (17). Lachlan looked initially solid with some fine shots until he also fell to an infield catch 7 (12). George wasn’t going to trouble the scorers 0 (9), we’ll get more next time mate!
Linus came in with some good stroke play to get the innings going including a lovely straight lofted drive 7 (14), Ryan caught also 1 (6), and Caleb the last line of defence 1* (4). It went down to the last ball. Our twilight batters did everything they could to rotate strike, let the more suitable hitters do their thing, Nevaan gave us a lovely ramp for 4 and a few behind the wicket shots - but we ultimately fell short by only 10 runs.
Some really good efforts by the team to get over the line with some real focus and positive head-down manner but in the end we just gave too many wickets away. Similar to the Concord side. IMO both teams didn’t bat that well, and the difference was a handful of runs. We will meet this team again in the semi-finals for another take on this, which is always enjoyable.

U15 White – LWCC (9-82) def. by Concord Briars White (1-84)
Match report compliments of Emily.
An Exciting Afternoon at Callan Park
Yesterday the LWCC U15 White team took on the U15 Concord Briars White team for a game of cricket at Callan Park. Thankfully it wasn’t as hot as some our previous matches have been.
We won the toss and decided to bat first. As vice captain I chose the batting order and asked Anton and Darcy to open. Both managed to keep their wicket and retired, Max F also managed to keep his wicket and retired.
The team faced all 30 overs and every member of the team had a chance to bat and worked together to put a total of 82 runs on the board with Emily and Anton finishing the innings without either of them being bowled out. The score was agood effort given the size difference between the two teams.
The second innings started well with Hartley bowling out their opening batsman and getting an early wicket. Unfortunately we weren’t able to collect any more wickets so the Concord team won the match 1-84 in 15.5 overs.
Jack F did a great job captaining the team.
Thanks to Martin for being such an enthusiastic and encouraging Coach, to Daniel for umpiring, to Olivia for scoring and to the Watermans for providing the fruit and snacks. Everyone played with great spirit and teamwork and showed great sportsmanship.
